Since its establishment in 1982 Orient Star Shipping, Inc., has proven that good service accounts for satisfied customers-whom they themselves endorse a POSITIVE WORD OF MOUTH. 0n that note, we continue to have an unwavering commitment to building customer relationships, one customer at a time.

WHEN IT ALL STARTED

Based on our personal experience, more than twenty-five years ago, when my father came to the United States, he sent a box to us in Manila. I still remember how it was so difficult for my Mom to retrieve the box from the Bureau of Customs. In those days Balikbayan box companies who consolidated cargoes from the United States and cleared the containerized shipment from the Customs, were virtually non-existent. It took several days and numerous signatures of bureaucratic customs officials before my Mom finally was able to clear the box from customs. When my parents, Roy and Mely Verzosa, opened Orient Star, they made sure through its operation that no family should ever go through the ordeal that my Mom experienced with the Customs. They understood that customers expect reliable service. Positive word of mouth quickly spread --our customers began to endorse Orient Star to their relatives and friends.

A NEW GENERATION

In year 2000, my husband, Danny Carido and I was given direct and sole control of Orient Star-Illinois. Our mission and commitment to provide customers the best possible service remains the same and will continue to pursue and capitalize on the experience we learned from my parents. In November 2002, we opened another expansion branch in Warren, Michigan. Through hard work, dedication and a lot of sacrifice, our Michigan branch continue to successfully grow year after year! The vision on expansion to the west coast and to other countries worldwide is already in its planning stage and we project this to materialize very soon! It is proven time and time again that Orient Star Shipping is the most reliable balikbayan box courier for over two decades. With the help of today's technological advancement, tracking and shipping balikbayan boxes to our native land has changed tremendously. Gone are the hassles of dealing with Customs officials-all the arrangements will be done and dealt by us. All of our customers enjoy the convenience of having their loved ones receive their boxes delivered to their doorstep.

BRANCHING OUT

Within the next twenty-three years from its inception, Orient Star has grown and established its service in the entire eastern seaboard. Branch offices were opened in the state of New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Illinois. Running a family owned business was a positive factor that helped in the success of the company. It was easy for each family member to focus on the company's main goal - to provide quality service that will speak for itself among its customers. Each of us understood that when the box was picked up from our customer's house, the job was only half way done. The mission is considered accomplished when the box is received by the recipient in the Philippines -INTACT and ON TIME. In order to further maintain our customer's trust, we have established secured facilities in the Philippines. Orient Star acquired its own office/warehouse in Quezon City and opened strategic satellite offices in Cebu, Iloilo, and in Bacolod. Each office is always operated by dedicated and trustworthy employees.

RECOGNITION

On a personal note, in November 19, 2005, it truly was an honor for being recognized by the Philippine American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Chicago. I received the "Premier Marketing Award in Cargo Service" in their 2005 Recognition Night, which was successfully organized by Chamber annually. This is indeed like "icing on the cake". However, I must admit that the accomplishments I made in contributing to the success of Orient Star will not be realized without the unconditional love and support my husband continue to give me through out the years. With his guidance and patience, I am a better person-- which is still "a work in progress" I must admit. On that thought I would like to dedicate this award to my parents, my husband and to all Orient Star staff here in the United States and in the Philippines.

WORDS TO LIVE BY

Last but not least, I would like to share a simple sentiment that a very close friend shared to me, which I live by.

"The road to success is not straight. There is a curve called Failure, a loop called Confusion, speed bumps called Friends, red lights called Enemies, caution lights called Family. You will have flats called Jobs.

But if you have a spare called Determination, an engine called Perseverance, insurance called Faith, a driver called Jesus, you will make it to a place called Success."

May the good Lord continue to bless us all!
